GETTING INVOLVED:
From Ideas to Action
This section of the website shows that the decisions we take at all levels of society impact our future on this planet. Each individual decision can make a difference, whether that is a consumer or board member [5].
In order to continue to address climate change in Wicomico County, it will require work not only among state partners and at the Maryland state level, but also across local towns, municipalities and counties to ensure that our people, economies, and resources are positioned to thrive into the future in a changing climate [6].

JOIN THE MOVEMENT
“We only have one home.
If we are to remain here, we must together take great care. To do that means
we must become a ‘we’,
a movement that is unstoppable and fearless."

In order to effectively combat climate change, both cities and individuals will have to get more involved in the fight. As Paul Hawken, editor of Drawdown, discusses, "What individuals can do is become a movement. Movements change how we think and how we see the world, creating more evolved social norms” [1]. “We only have one home. If we are to remain here, we must together take great care. To do that means we must become a ‘we,’ a movement that is unstoppable and fearless” [1].
VOTEVoting for politicians (at all levels of government) that have a strong and clear stance on improving climate change mitigation policies is an important step in the marathon of necessary changes.
Examples of policy changes:
|
BE INFORMEDEssential for both voting and being part of the movement is being educated about climate change and its effects. In order to be an informed voter, first one must understand what policies help and what policies hurt the battle for climate change mitigation. Although it may seem like the distinction between help and hurt would be very clear, in reality even highly educated voters have trouble breaking down complex policy initiatives.
